Be careful with the Android Market 2011 Security Tool

Google's latest update to the Android mobile OS seems to have subverted by hackers, according to security vendor Symantec.Symantec found an application called "Android Market Security Tool" which is a repackaged version of the update is valid with the same name which removes malware DroidDream of the infected device.

Android Market 2011 Security Tool does not really fix the vulnerability that allows DroidDream to infect the phone, but only remove malware, writes Timothy Armstrong, an analyst with Kaspersky Lab malware junior, in a blog post.
Intervention by Google also highlights a problem with how Android is updated,
"Because of the nature of Android at the moment, very difficult and expensive to push security updates as you do on the desktop operating system like Linux or Windows," wrote Armstrong. "Unlike the iPhone, which install the patch via iTunes, or Windows Mobile that uses ActiveSync, Android works almost entirely through the communication over-the-air."
Google officials contacted in London has not commented
